This is me in my work space. I also like to create t shirts. I got a screen printer set up in this space. The logo on the screen and on the shirt I am wearing is for my company AHLIES. It is pronounced all-ees, after my last name and a simple trick on a skateboard called an ollie.
The Logo on the T-shirt is an A with the center being a skateboarder who is doing a trick. I came up with this logo a couple of months ago after a lot of sketches. I can't remember where it came to me but I remember the idea hitting me like a 2x4.
I have been meaning to do this for awhile. I am just very bad with introductions. Hi, My name is Jamie and I design things. I also love photography, I bring my camera a sketch pad and a pencil everywhere. Most people don't understand that but there is inspiration in everything we do and see. When you sit in LA traffic for 2 hours of your day you get a lot of ideas.
My main focus at the moment is skateboard graphics. This has been an ongoing project for 2 years now and I don't see it stopping anytime soon. I came up with the idea for my senior thesis design project. I decided to make up a skateboarding line that was socially and politically aware. That was the main emphasis of my senior project; that these skateboards would be like moving billboards. So the designs on the boards reflected things that were going on in society.
Now that I have graduated I still design skateboards but the imagery is different. It does not only show things that are going on in society, they are now works of art. Most people who want the skateboards don't even want to ride them, they want to hang them on their walls as art pieces.
I feel like this blog could be like one big critique for me. I will be adding images of my work daily and would love for any comments. Negative or positive feedback in any way is good.
